Path of Exile Item Upgrading
The ability to upgrade items allows players to upgrade their weapons and gear by adding new affixes, increasing the base stats of the item or providing additional benefits. To upgrade an item, a player has to have it in their inventory, as well as access to the kiln.
Typically items with weak bases (like rings) can be upgraded to a more powerful base, while objects with strong bases, such as eth titans do not vary in their stats following being upgraded.
Upgrade components

To upgrade the quality of a weapon, armor or other item in the game, the player must select it and then click the Upgrade button on the toolbar. This will show on the right-hand side of the screen a preview that shows the expected upgrade statistics and the necessary component or materials.
There are three types of upgrade components: universal upgrades, prefix upgrades and suffix upgrades. Universal upgrades, which are made up of gems, can be placed in any kind of equipment, and offer lower bonuses than upgrade components that are type-restricted. Infusions, which can only be placed in gear that is ascended and legendary equipment are exactly the same as jewels but have higher bonuses and cannot be placed in any other equipment. Suffix upgrades can be added to gathering tools. They add a suffix at the end of the item's name. For example, adding the suffix Glyph could transform a Staff wrapping of Minor Vigor into a Canthan staff wrapping of Minor Vigor.
In the instance of upgrades for gathering tools, if a player replaces one glyph by another the previous glyph will be returned to the inventory. However, replacing any other upgrade component can destroy it, except for inscribed glyphs that can be swapped.
Leveling
The upgrade system in Path of Exile has some important variations from the previous versions. Gear is now broken down into tracks and items can only be upgraded a certain number of times before being "leveled out." The costs for upgrading increase with each level, however the materials required for upgrades do not. Rerolling

Each upgraded item can also be equipped with a special bonus that boosts the item's power by a specific percentage or a flat amount. These bonuses are added to regular affixes. The more you upgrade a product, the greater your chance of obtaining the bonus of a different kind.
The game also has a number set that grants a bonus when three or four upgraded items from the set are placed on a unit. This is an excellent method to add a lot of power to a character without spending an excessive amount of money.
Many players choose to reroll their gear and weapons, especially in the beginning stages of the game. Rerolling can help you gain a stronger character faster, which allows you to advance in the game and achieve higher levels.
Sets
